Water Treaters To Meet At 15th Annual AWT Convention

Legionella and Legionaires' Disease among top industry topics featured

McLean, Va. - The Association of Water Technologies will host its 15th Annual Water Technologies Convention & Expo this week from Sept. 17 to Sept. 20 at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort in Phoenix, Ariz.

With the number of Legionnaires' cases increasing at alarming rates throughout various regions of the U.S., two presentations: "Legionella Environmental Sampling: Whether to, how to, and what to do with the results" given by Matt Freije of HC Information Resources and "Control of Legionnaires' Disease in Water Systems," given by Mike Hunter of HALOX Technologies will highlight how to control Legionnaires' Disease in water systems and whether or not to sample cooling towers and domestic water for Legionella.

"One of the most important things AWT provides on a yearly basis to its members is the opportunity to meet, interact with and learn from other water treatment professionals," commented Bruce Ketrick, CWT, AWT president-elect and convention chair. "Any professional attending the conference will not only have the opportunity to interact with their peers but also gain valuable insights into the direction this industry is taking."

The three-day conference will also include sessions presented by industry giants such as Colin Frayne, CWT, Metro Group, on "Black and Toxic Mold, Legionella;" Jim Farmerie of HERC Products on "Source Water Well Rehabilitation;" and David H. Paul, David H. Paul, Inc., on "Boiler Feed Water Treatment."

With nearly 30 different presentations on topics ranging from boilers to cooling towers to Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), the wide range of specialties within the water treatment industry will be extensively covered.

The general session on Thursday, Sept. 18, will feature Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Vidmar speaking on how small businesses can take risks and succeed in business in spite of setbacks.

AWT will also unveil its newest white paper via a session given by Patrick Sisk of Biolab Water Additives. "Enhanced and Super-enhanced Tubes – A Technical Review," will focus on various regulatory issues, individual liability concerns, hazardous waste management and training and maintaining compliance.
